and growth. New aspirations are fueling the school’s continued rise. Highlights include:
- Expanding interdisciplinary teaching and research. By crossing traditional academic borders, faculty are discovering innovative approaches to some of society’s most complex problems and competing successfully for funding.
- Winning $1.1 million in new research funding during the 2015 fiscal year. Grants were funded by federal sources, including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Veteran’s Administration, state entities such as the Georgia Department of Human Services and private sources such as professional health care organizations also granted funds for research.
- Continual expansion of research, including the development of therapy robots for children with cerebral palsy, finding ways to reduce the risk of type 1 diabetes, and improving the best practices of aerosol drug delivery to patients with lung diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
